Prof. Mohamed Ihab Sherif Elmasry, borned in April 1971, completed his B.Sc. at Alexandria University in 1993, graduating with a distinction grade in the graduation project. He obtained his M.Sc. degree from Alexandria University as well in 1997 with a major in "Structures". In the graduate school at Alexandria University, he focused on structural performance under seismic excitation concerning steel and reinforced concrete structures. Prof. Elmasry studied at the University of Southern California to earn his Ph.D. (Major: Structures) in December 2004 in the field of Health Monitoring of Structures Using Semiactive Devices. Since 1998, Prof. Elmasry has been on the faculty at the Arab Academy for Science & Technology & Maritime Transport. Prof. Elmasry worked as an associate lecturer at the Arab Academy for Science & Technology & Maritime Transport (AASTMT) in the period between January 1998 to August 2000. His study for his Ph.D. started in August 2000 at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, under the supervision of Prof. Erik Johnson in a research project with his advisor that was supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and METRANS research grants. From 2005-2009, Prof. Elmasry has been working as an Assistant Professor at the Construction and Building Engineering Department. In his work in the department, he has been teaching the following undergraduate courses: "Strength of Materials", "Theory of Structures", "Design of R.C. Structures", and the following graduate course: "Reliability in Civil Engineering." In addition, Prof. Elmasry was distinguishingly promoted to a First Grade Lecturer in 2007 at the Arab Academy for Science & Technology & Maritime Transport. In January 2009, Prof. Elmasry was promoted to become an Associate Professor of Structural Engineering, teaching the same classes in both undergraduate and graduate levels and promoting research in the field of structural health monitoring and structural safety. In January 2013, Prof. Elmasry was promoted to become a Professor of Structural Engineering, major: Structures. Prof. Elmasry became the Vice Dean of Graduate studies at the Arab Academy for Science and Technology and Maritime Transport since September 2010 till present. As for research activities, Prof. Elmasry received the Research Grant Prize for young Egyptian scientists from the Centre of Special Studies (CSSP) in the Alexandria International Library (Bibliotheca Alexandrina) in 2006 studying online health monitoring of structures. He was a visiting scholar (professor) at the University of Southern California during July-September 2007, where he expanded his research into applications of online health monitoring of structures using actuators and structural control. Prof. Elmasry participated in many international conferences including Engineering Mechanics (EMC), EURODYN (European Conference of Structural Dynamics), American Control Conference (ACC), Probabilistic Mechanics (PMC), MESOMECHANICS, IABSE-IASS, ISMA2012 (International Conference of Noise & Vibration), Ein Chams International Conference, Alexandria International Conferences, Bio-Vision conferences. Prof. Elmasry has authored co-authored many journal and conference papers, and has been refereeing journal and conference papers such as Journal of Engineering Mechanics, European Journal of Operational Research, Journal of civil Engineering and Architecture, Engineering Mechanics conference, American Control Conference, EURODYN, others. Moreover, Prof. Elmasry had quite a practical engineering experience working in the construction of some mega projects such as the Alexandria International Library (Bibliotheca Alexandrina) and in the design and construction of special oil tanks structures for Exxon-Mobil Egypt at the Mexx-facility campus, and in the design and construction of many public and residential structures in Alexandria.
