biography

I am Alaa Mohamed Elsayed Ammar, a seasoned maritime professional and educator. Since October 2020, I have been serving as a Faculty Member and Marine Lecturer at the (AASMT) , where I am also pursuing a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Maritime Transport. My academic foundation is built upon a Bachelor of Maritime Transport - Nautical Technology (2005) from AAST, Egypt. Prior to my academic role, I had an extensive sea-going career, holding the rank of Master on large container vessels owned and managed by Hapag-Lloyd from June 2018 till September 2020. I also have long experience as a Chief Officer, serving on Ultra Large Container Vessels (up to 19,870 TEU/195,636 GT) for Hapag-Lloyd and UASC. My practical expertise includes demonstrated high proficiency in overall command, management, and the safe operation of vessels , specializing in the efficient and precise maneuvering of Ultra Large Vessels (ULVs) in challenging environments. I am technically proficient in specialized maritime PC-based applications, including Cargo Loading and Stability Programs, and Planned Maintenance Systems (PMS). As an Egyptian national , I am a hardworking professional with full professional proficiency in English and native fluency in Arabic.

Third Lecturer

As a Maritime Lecturer at the Maritime Upgrading Studies Institute, I teach Chief Mate and Second Mate Cargo Handling courses in compliance with STCW and IMO standards. My role includes course preparation, competency-based assessment, and delivering applied instruction on cargo planning, stability, and safe cargo operations, while supporting quality assurance and continuous improvement of maritime upgrading programs.
