Description/Outcomes | This course deals with the characteristics and use of drugs intended for hepatic disorders including viral hepatitis, pancreatitis, gastrointestinal bleeding, peptic ulcer, gastro-esophageal reflux disease, inflammatory bowel diseases and irritable bowel syndrome as well as gastrointestinal symptoms including nausea, vomiting, constipation, and diarrhea. The mechanism of action of different agents commonly used for these disorders is provided. Interactive approaches are used to familiarize the students with background information underlying the expected side effects and the interactions between these agents and other drugs, foods, or disease conditions. Emphasis will be placed on integrating epidemiology, etiology, pathophysiology, treatment options and guidelines, disease state management. |
