Arab Academy Secures More Than Half of the Erasmus Projects Funded by the European Union for 2026

Prof. Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghafar Congratulates Research Teams on Winning Five Major Strategic Projects, Affirming: “I Am Proud of Your Contributions; the Academy’s Excellence Reflects Its International Standing”

His Excellency Prof. Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghafar Ismail Farag, President of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT), extended his sincere congratulations and deepest appreciation to the Academy’s researchers and faculty members, expressing his pride in and recognition of the Academy’s latest scientific and international achievement: securing five major research and investment projects fully funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ Capacity Building in Higher Education (CBHE) Programme for 2026.

The Academy President commended the efforts of Prof. Dr. Yasser Gaber, Dean of Scientific Research and Innovation, as well as all members of the project teams, praising their dedication and outstanding scientific expertise, which contributed to this distinguished achievement. The success follows intensive efforts to prepare and develop 53 competitive project proposals. He emphasized that this achievement reflects the spirit of dedication, excellence, and distinction demonstrated by the Academy’s research community.

This remarkable achievement comes among a total of only nine projects submitted and funded across the Arab Republic of Egypt. AASTMT alone secured more than half of the projects awarded this year to Egyptian educational institutions and research centers.

The initiative witnessed remarkable participation from the Academy’s research community, with 53 research project proposals submitted. The Academy successfully secured funding for five of them in vital and specialized fields, including:

• CORTEX: Developing undergraduate and postgraduate curricula and establishing specialized laboratories in robotics engineering and intelligent systems at the College of Engineering and Technology in Alamein.

• CREPH-MED: Developing training programs and curricula in public health and climate change, utilizing virtual reality technologies to serve the medical sector in Alamein.

• MARITECH-SEC: Developing academic programs in maritime transport technology and marine engineering, focusing on cybersecurity and digital transformation at the Arab Institute for Maritime Transport Studies in Abu Qir.

• MARINEXT: Establishing educational and research laboratories in the fields of the blue economy, coastal sustainability, and green jobs in Abu Qir.

• ReAct: Developing computer science curricula, responsible artificial intelligence, and digital governance to address issues related to migration and social inclusion in Port Said.

These projects will be implemented in cooperation with international alliances of European and Arab universities from France, Spain, Greece, Portugal, Italy, Croatia, and Bulgaria, in addition to Tunisia, Jordan, Mauritania, and Morocco, with the participation of Egyptian universities, including October 6 University and Cairo University.
