As part of its ongoing efforts to promote sustainability and environmental responsibility, the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) – Alamein Branch has implemented a comprehensive waste collection and disposal system that directly supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production) and (SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation).
The initiative ensures safe segregation, collection, and disposal of waste through well-organized processes using stainless steel and color-coded bins, enabling the reduction of waste accumulation and minimizing environmental pollution. The system promotes efficient recycling practices, resource optimization, and reduced landfill dependency, fostering a culture of sustainable consumption within the campus community.
Importantly, this initiative also advances SDG 6 by protecting water resources from contamination through the proper handling and disposal of waste, preventing leachate and hazardous runoff from polluting nearby water systems. By maintaining hygienic waste-handling practices and avoiding improper disposal, the system safeguards clean water access, sanitation standards, and public health within and beyond the campus environment.
Through this integrated approach, AASTMT continues to act as a regional model for sustainable campus operations, embedding environmental awareness and circular economy principles into everyday practic
