AASTMT's Participation in “AI Forward Summit 2025”

The Tunisian capital hosted a major global event from 30 November to 3 December 2024 at the Presidential Palace of Conferences, where the AI Forward Summit and its accompanying events took place under the generous patronage of H.E. President Kais Saied, President of the Republic of Tunisia. The summit was co-organized by the Arab Organization for ICT (AICTO), the League of Arab States, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) of the United Nations, UNESCO, and the Ministry of Communication Technologies of Tunisia.

The AI Forward Summit and its accompanying events witnessed high-level Arab and international participation. Leading the attendees were:

  • H.E. Dr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States

  • H.E. Sofiene Hamisi, Tunisian Minister of Communication Technologies

  • H.E. Mohamed Ali Ennafie, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad

  • H.E. Dr. Doreen Bogdan-Martin, Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU)

  • H.E. the Ministers of Communications of Palestine, Libya, and Comoros

  • H.E. Ambassador Hossam Zaki, Assistant Secretary-General of the League of Arab States and Head of the Secretary-General’s Office

  • H.E. Ambassador Mohamed Saleh Ben Issa, Assistant Secretary-General of the League of Arab States and Head of the Arab League Office in Tunisia

  • H.E. Prof. Dr. Heba Baraka, Advisor to the Egyptian Minister of Communications and Information Technology, representing the Minister

  • H.E. Eng. Mohamed Ben Amor, Director-General of the Arab Organization for ICT

They were joined by numerous Arab and international government delegations and representatives of major regional, international, and Arab organizations working in digital transformation and artificial intelligence. Among these was the delegation of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, represented by Prof. Dr. Ali Fahmy, Dean of the College of Artificial Intelligence, and Dr. Mostafa Rasheed, Assistant to the Academy President and the Academy’s liaison to the Technical Secretariat of the Council of Arab ICT Ministers.

The participation of the Academy’s delegation came as part of its commitment to supporting Arab, regional, and international efforts aimed at promoting the responsible and sustainable use of artificial intelligence technologies and contributing to the follow-up of the Arab AI Initiative launched by the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States and adopted at the Fifth Arab Development Summit held in Baghdad in May 2024. The Academy, under the leadership of H.E. Prof. Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghafar, President of the Academy, prepared the official document of this initiative.
