AASTMT - Fortinet “Information Security Lab”
Within the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) fruitful relations with Fortinet, H.E. Prof. Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghaffar Ismail - AASTMT President inaugurated an Information Security Lab on Tuesday 14- 4- 2026, at AASTMT AbuKir Campus College of Engineering and Technology – Alexandria. The lab was established in collaboration with Fortinet, a leading company in the field of cybersecurity. The opening ceremony was held in the presence of prominent figures in the communications and education sectors, along with representatives from Fortinet's officials and officials from AASTMT College of Engineering and Technology, and College of Computing and Information Technology.
It is worth mentioning that AASTMT and Fortinet's collaboration developed from an academic partnership into a strategic alliance focused on globally recognized training programs and certifications, as to close the gap between education and career paths. By supporting digital transformation initiatives at the national and regional levels, this initiative seeks to strengthen AASTMT's standing as a prominent educational institution. According to the results of the 2025 Global Skills Gap Research Report, which showed that a significant percentage of organizations place a high value on certified accreditation, this project helps close Egypt's cybersecurity skills gap.
In this regard, the lab's cutting-edge Fortinet technologies offer a realistic cybersecurity simulation environment where students can engage in practical learning exercises including incident response and simulated cyberattacks. As, H.E. AASTMT President emphasized the lab's role in preparing students from AASTMT College of Engineering and Technology, and AASTMT College of Computing and Information Technology across all AASTMT campuses to meet the demands of modern technology, demonstrating AASTMT Commitment to improving their technical skills. Considering the lab's opening a landmark in developing talent, H.E. Eng. Khaled Fawzy - Regional Director of Fortinet in Egypt, Libya, and Sudan, also affirmed that this historic collaboration aims to empower local engineers and enhance their training both nationally and internationally.
