AASTMT Participation in the "World Cities Day 2024" celebration

The Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) participated in the "World Cities Day 2024" celebration under the theme of Youth Leading Climate and Local Action for Cities. The event was held on Thursday 31- 10- 2024, at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, in Alexandria as part of the Egyptian state's arrangements to host the World Urban Forum (WUF12) - the second largest event on the United Nations agenda - in its twelfth session in Cairo, under the auspices of H.E. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi - President of the Arab Republic of Egypt. The forum is organized by the United Nations Human Settlements Program (Habitat) in cooperation with the Egyptian Ministries of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, and Local Development, from 4 – 8 November 2024.

The World Cities Day 2024 activities were held in the presence of H.E. Prof. Dr. Mostafa Madbouly – Egyptian Prime Minister, H.E. Dr. Manal Awad - Minister of Local Development, H.E. Dr. Ashraf Sobhi - Minister of Youth and Sports, H.E. Dr. Rania Al-Mashat - Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, H.E. Lieutenant General Ahmed Khaled - Governor of Alexandria, H.E. Dr. Ahmed Zayed - Director of Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) and H.E. Prof. Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghaffar Ismail Farag - AASTMT President with the participation of more than 1500 experts, youth, thought leaders and decision-makers, in addition to delegations from 30 countries.

The event included extensive discussion sessions and the preparation of cultural, artistic, entertainment, and sports activities with the participation of foreign and local delegations, and several societal groups to encourage young involvement in creating sustainable cities and communities.

It is worth to mention that AASTMT participation in organizing the event reflects its commitment to contribute and cooperate with the government and community organizations to exchange knowledge and work towards developing more sustainable cities. Based on AASTMT role as an Arab house of expertise, it works to participate in these global initiatives to address issues, provide solutions, raise awareness of the importance of cities, the opportunities and challenges they face, and promote innovation and practical solutions to address urban problems.
