Today 4th of July,2025, the annual meeting of the Global Shipping Think Tank Alliance (GSTTA) kicked off in the Italian city of Naples. This year's meeting is chaired by Professor. Alaa Mahmoud Morsy, Dean of Port Training Institute and Research & Consultation Center for the Maritime Transport Sector.
This alliance is a leading international platform that brings together experts and decision-makers in the field of maritime shipping from around the world. Prof.. Alaa Morsy opened the inaugural session with a welcoming address to participating members from within and outside the alliance, emphasizing the importance of international cooperation in addressing the rapidly evolving challenges facing the maritime transport sector.
The session featured a review of the alliance's future plans, with Prof. Alaa Morsy announcing a new strategic direction to enhance the alliance's openness to the industrial sector and engage maritime institutions in supporting annual research and publications.
During the scientific sessions, Prof. Alaa Morsy delivered a keynote presentation on the economic challenges of green transformation in maritime transport, highlighting key questions raised by investors when assessing economic feasibility, along with proposed solutions to stimulate investment in this necessary transformation for the planet's future.
High-level representatives from Egypt, China, Singapore, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Spain, Japan, the Netherlands, and South Korea participated in the meeting, alongside participants joining via live broadcast from other countries.
It was agreed that the next annual meeting will be held in Shanghai, People's Republic of China, continuing the alliance's journey in supporting sustainable development of the global maritime shipping industry.
It is noteworthy that at the end of each meeting, the alliance issues a comprehensive report summarizing the key findings and recommendations, serving as an important reference for researchers and policymakers in the maritime transport sector.
This meeting is held alongside the Annual Conference on Maritime Economics in Italy, hosted by the Economic Research Center of Intesa Sanpaolo Group.
