Honoring Ceremony of the 47th Batch of Basic Studies for Seafarers and the First Batch of the Professional Diploma in Ports and Logistics at Port Training Institute.
The Port Training Institute celebrated, Thursday, 22 January 2026, the graduation of 364 students from the 47th batch of the Basic Studies Course for Seafarers, as well as honoring the top achievers of the first batch of the Professional Diploma in Ports and Logistics, comprising 39 graduates. The ceremony was held at the indoor hall of Al-Ittihad Alexandria Club.
The event was attended by His Excellency Counselor Dr. Hussein Madkour Mohamed, President of the State Lawsuits Authority; His Excellency Prof. Ismail Abdel Ghafar Ismail Farag, President of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT); His Excellency Rear Admiral Dr. Ashraf Nabil Al-Assal, Chairman of the Egyptian Maritime Safety Authority; His Excellency Major General Engineer Abdel Qader Darwish, Chairman of the Board and Managing Director of the Multipurpose Terminals Company; His Excellency Mr. Liu Tan, Vice President of Qingdao Port Vocational and Technical College, China; His Excellency Mr. Yang Pei, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China; His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ahmed Salama, President of Al-Ittihad Alexandria Club and Chairman of Al-Fath Company for Shipping and Stevedoring; Prof. Dr. Alaa Abdel Bari, Vice President of AASTMT for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research; and Prof. Alaa Mahmoud Morsy, Dean of Port Training Institute and Research and Consultation Center, in addition to a distinguished group of senior officials from the Academy and the Port Training Institute, as well as representatives of major Egyptian companies and authorities operating in the maritime transport sector.
In his speech, His Excellency Prof. Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghafar Ismail Farag, President of the Arab Academy, affirmed that this day represents an important milestone in the students’ journey, as it crowns their efforts in study and qualification and marks the beginning of their professional lives filled with challenges. He emphasized that the Academy always strives to prepare highly qualified maritime cadres capable of meeting the needs of the local and international labor markets, especially in light of Egypt’s vision to become a global hub for trade and maritime transport.
He also explained that the Port Training Institute, through the Basic Studies Program for Seafarers, offers a specialized and integrated program considered among the best in the region. The program provides both theoretical and practical training to prepare students to work onboard mega vessels and all types of commercial ships, ensuring their ability to handle all conditions and situations efficiently and professionally. This is in addition to the Professional Diploma in Ports and Logistics, which aims to qualify skilled human resources in ports and logistics in cooperation with Qingdao Port Vocational and Technical College in China.
Prof. Abdel Ghafar pointed out that the Arab Academy is one of the leading educational institutions in the region, as it is a specialized organization of the League of Arab States and the technical arm of the Council of Arab Transport Ministers. He added that the Academy has cooperation protocols with more than 30 prestigious international educational institutions worldwide, further enhancing its academic and training standing.
He also confirmed that the achievements recently realized by the Academy reflect its commitment to quality standards and excellence in education and scientific research.
In conclusion, he praised the efforts exerted by the Academy and the Port Training Institute in developing the maritime transport sector, stressing the importance of qualifying Egyptian youth to become a driving force toward achieving leadership in this field. He congratulated the graduating students and wished them success and prosperity in their professional careers.
Rear Admiral Dr. Ashraf Al-Assal also delivered a speech in which he commended the students’ efforts and urged them to shoulder responsibility and confidently enter the international labor market.
For his part, Prof. Alaa Mahmoud Morsy, Dean of Port Training Institute and Research and Consultation Center, stated that the Institute is always keen on organizing such events that reflect its dedication to preparing scientifically and practically qualified human resources, fully ready to assume responsibilities and integrate efficiently into the labor market. He explained that students of the Basic Studies for Seafarers receive comprehensive training across various maritime and engineering specializations.
In the nautical specialization, students are trained in the principles of maritime navigation, including the use of navigation equipment, seamanship, rope work and knotting, as well as cargo handling and container operations. In the mechanical specialization, training includes the study of engine and diesel types, pumps, electrical circuits, in addition to onboard practical training to refine their skills. Students also study a specialized Maritime English course, which further enhances their professional qualification.
Mr. Liu Tan, Vice President of Qingdao Port Vocational and Technical College, delivered a speech in which he praised the students of the Professional Diploma in Ports and Logistics and the Port Training Institute at the Academy.
On the sidelines of the ceremony, the Third Seafarers’ Employment Forum was organized with the participation of a number of leading companies, providing a valuable opportunity for training top-performing students and recruiting distinguished graduates.
