On Monday, May 26, 2025, witnessed the launch Online Seminar "Talent Cultivation in Chinese & Egyptian Ports," organized by the Port Training Institute in collaboration with the Vocational Technical College for Ports affiliated with Qingdao Port, China. The Seminar, broadcasted live online, was part of the "China Vocational Education Week" activities, serving as a significant platform to enhance understanding and exchange of expertise between the Egyptian and Chinese sides in vital sectors such as ports and logistics.
The Seminar was inaugurated by Prof. Alaa Mahmoud Morsy, Dean of Port Training Institute & Maritime Research & Consultation Center, AASTMT,, who emphasized the importance of vocational and technical education as a fundamental pillar for sustainable development and comprehensive economic growth, especially in vital sectors like ports. During his speech, he reviewed the ongoing cooperation between Port Training Institute and Chinese entities, announcing the institute's international agenda for 2025. The opening session also featured remarks by Professor Zhuang Zongzhong, Vice President of the Vocational Technical College for Ports affiliated with Qingdao Port. The Seminar also included a special contribution from Mr. Yang Yi, Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Alexandria, reflecting the depth of relations between the two countries.
The Seminar featured a lineup of experts and specialists from both sides. Professor Luo Hongxin, Dean of the International Business Management Department at the Vocational Technical College for Ports affiliated with Qingdao Port, presented strategies for vocational education in the Chinese port sector, showcasing the college as a leading model. Assistant Professor Jing Meiling, Deputy Dean of the Ports and Logistics Department at the college, addressed the topic of enhancing competencies within the framework of smart ports, highlighting the skills required in the era of advanced technology.
Assistant Professor Guo Jindong, lecturer in the Ports and Logistics Department at the college, also discussed the importance of enhancing the efficiency of workers in managing port supply chains. From the Egyptian side, capt. Aly Aasim, CEO of the Alexandria Container Handling Company, presented his vision on the Egyptian ports' needs in the vocational education system, emphasizing the necessity to align curricula with market requirements. Capt. Ibrahim El Attar, Head of the Maritime Studies Department at the Ports Training Institute, discussed the application of modern technology in vocational education within the port sector.
The Seminar concluded by highlighting the Joint Professional Diploma in Ports and Logistics, with Dr. Ayman El Nahrawy, Head of Ports and Logistics Programs at the Ports Training Institute, providing a detailed overview of the program as a successful model of fruitful educational cooperation.
This Seminar underscores the pivotal role of vocational education in building qualified personnel for the port sector, opening wide avenues for further sustainable cooperation and knowledge exchange between Egypt and China, in line with common economic development goals.
