Prof. Alaa Mahmoud Morsy, Dean of Port Training Institute and Research and Consultation Center for Maritime Transport, shared his views on the importance of digital transformation for seafarers during a panel discussion that included a group of international experts, as part of the Seatrade Maritime Middle East Conference and Exhibition held within the framework of UAE Maritime Week 2025.
Prof. Alaa Mahmoud Morsy affirmed that adopting modern digital technologies is no longer optional but an essential necessity to ensure a safer and more prosperous future for those working at sea.
He explained that these technologies play a central role in enhancing human connections for seafarers by providing effective and continuous communication means with their families, alleviating the feelings of distance and isolation that may accompany their long working periods.
He also pointed out the vital role these technologies play in providing remote psychological and health support, marking a qualitative leap in the care provided to this important group.
The Dean of Port Training Institute noted that smart navigation systems and advanced weather monitoring tools act as a protective shield for seafarers, helping to reduce potential risks and facilitate distress operations in emergencies.
Prof. Alaa Mahmoud Morsy emphasized that digital transformation opens vast horizons for developing seafarers’ skills through remote training programs, in addition to improving ship and cargo management, which positively reflects on the performance of the maritime sector as a whole.
It is worth mentioning that the Port Training Institute of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport qualifies support-level seafarers and Arab maritime human resources to support and develop the maritime transport sector in Egypt and the Arab region
