H.E Prof. Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghafar Ismail Farag - President of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) participated in the activities of the 3rd Edition of "Arab Sustainable Development Week" that was held under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi during the period from 3 – 6 November 2019, in Cairo, in the presence of H.E Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit - Secretary General of the League of Arab States.
The Arab Sustainable Development Week was held within the League of Arab States`s keenness to spread the concept of sustainability as to achieve its objectives within the United Nations 2030 Plan, where that was held in cooperation with the Egyptian Ministry of Planning, Monitoring and Administrative Reform, the United Nations, the World Bank and the European Union.
As it’s worth to mention that since 2016, the League of Arab States has lent special attention to the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals to ensure that government policymakers adopt it as part of the national development strategy. Economic, social and environmental problems plaguing Arab countries have held them back from achieving sustainable development goals. The Arab Sustainable Development Week is particularly important as it looks into ways to support these objectives by bringing together more than 1,300 senior officials and decision makers concerned with sustainable development issues in the Arab region.
