Dr. Mona T. Diab is the Director of the Language Technologies Institute (LTI) at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) and a Full Professor in the School of Computer Science, with a courtesy appointment in the CMU Heinz School of Information Management. A globally recognized expert in computational linguistics and natural language processing (NLP), she has received numerous accolades, including the King Salman Global Arabic Academy award in 2023. Dr. Diab has held prestigious academic and industry roles, including tenured professorship at George Washington University, Lead Responsible AI Research Scientist at Meta, and technical leadership at Amazon AWS. She is an ACL Fellow and recognized among the Top Global AI Scientists of Arab Descent by MIT Technology Review.

Dr. Diab’s research focuses on advancing trustworthy NLP and responsible AI systems, particularly in low-resource and multilingual contexts. Her work spans controllable natural language generation, cross-lingual processing, computational social science, and health analytics, with a pioneering role in Arabic NLP. She leads the R3LIT Lab at CMU and has co-founded significant initiatives such as the *SEM Conference and workshops on Linguistic Code-Switching. Active in global AI governance, Dr. Diab serves on editorial boards and advisory committees, continuing to mentor the next generation of computational linguists while shaping AI innovation for societal impact.
