Assistant Secretary General of the League of Arab States and Chief of Staff

Hossam Zaki is currently the Assistant Secretary General of the League of Arab States and Chief of Staff since July 2016. He previously served as Egypt's Ambassador to Brazil (2012-2015) and Assistant Foreign Minister for European Affairs (2015-2016). Zaki has held various significant roles, including Senior Middle East Advisor for the Egyptian Foreign Minister (2007-2012), Deputy Chief of Staff of the Minister (2008-2012), and Official Spokesperson of the Ministry (2007-2011). His extensive experience also includes being Egypt’s Deputy Ambassador to the UK (2005-2007) and Spokesperson for the Secretary General of the League of Arab States (2003-2005).

Zaki's career began as a political officer at the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with postings in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (1990-1993), and at Egypt’s Permanent Mission to the UN in New York (1996-2002). He has also served as Head of the Department of East Arab States (2002-2003) and a member of the Foreign Minister’s cabinet (1994-1996). Zaki holds a BSc in Business Administration from Helwan University, Cairo, and an International Diploma in Public Administration from the Ecole Nationale d’Administration (ENA) in Paris. He received his basic education at the French Jesuites School in Cairo.
