H.E. Prof. Ismail Abdel Ghafar Ismail Farag
President of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT)Professor Ismail Abdel Ghafar Ismail Farag has been serving as the President of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) since October 25, 2011. His leadership has been pivotal in advancing maritime education and fostering international collaborations.
Before his tenure at AASTMT, Prof. Abdel Ghafar held the position of Director and Dean at the Egyptian Military Technical College (MTC) from 2009 to 2011. He earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from George Washington University in 1989, following a Master’s degree from Cairo University in 1982 and a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Computer Department) from MTC in 1978.
Throughout his career, Prof. Abdel Ghafar has been actively involved in various international maritime organizations. He serves as a member of the Board Council of the World Maritime University (WMU) in Malmö, Sweden, and leads the official delegation of the League of Arab States to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council. Additionally, he chairs the Technical Committee for Developing Maritime Education at the IMO.
Under his guidance, AASTMT has expanded its academic programs and strengthened partnerships with global institutions, enhancing its reputation in maritime education and research.
