Objectives

  • This GMDSS course designed for mariners who sail exclusively in areas covered by VHF coast stations (Sailing Area-A1) only. This course is subject to a continuous adjustment and update to the requirements of the IMO and the latest development in radio communication regulations. Upon completion of this course, the trainee will have good knowledge about the GMDSS system and be able to take charge of communication with the relevant rescue authority in emergencies as well as the routine communication. The trainee will be aware of techniques to avoid the accidental transmission of false distress alerts and the procedures to use in order to lighten the effects of false distress alerts following accidental transmission.
