The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Visit for the Continuation of Validation of the Architectural Engineering and Environmental Design Department- College of Engineering and Technology AASTMT, Alexandria Campus. 17-20 October 2009
One of the main strategic objectives of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) is to give more concern to various international professional accreditations of its educational programs.
Therefore, the faculty of engineering and technology at the AASTMT has taken
the initiative to build strategic connections, cooperation links and
partnerships with international academic programs, institutes, and centers
towards opportunities for the advancement of AASTMT
as a leading regional organization, its students and staff members.
During 2003 the faculty of engineering and technology at AASTMT started
communications with the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) -
London - UK which has been established on 1843 to look after the
architectural profession worldwide, to seek the validation of RIBA for its
architectural engineering and environmental design department courses.
In April 2004, a RIBA visiting board has reviewed all documentation,
facilities, laboratories, and learning and education environment. After the
visit and review the AASTMT were given full validation and RIBA part 1 for
its architecture program.
Furthermore, AASTMT has decided to seek the RIBA part 2 validations in order
to create more development for its architectural programs; therefore, RIBA
part 2 visiting board has visited the AASTMT on May 2006 for the RIBA part 2
validation processes, which has been successfully achieved in the
architecture program at the AASTMT.
In May 2009, faculty of engineering and technology has started preparations
for RIBA revalidation for part 1 and part 2. A full visiting board has visited the AASTMT, Alexandria campus between the 17th and the 20th of October 2009.
A continuation of validation for another 5 years until 2014 for both RIBA
part 1 and part 2 has been granted for the AASTMT architectural program, which proves the success of the program and
its outstanding achievement.
It is worth mentioning that in addition to the UK, graduates from a
validated department have the advantages of practicing architecture in EU
countries, Gulf Countries, and other countries worldwide.
