H.E Prof. Dr. Mohamed Farghaly, President of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport has been chosen to be a member in the Board of Directors of the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR) of the World Bank which is a partnership of the International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (ISDR) system as it considered to be one of the governing authorities in the Global Funding systems that provides the technical guidance as well as the regular strategic review to all activities that are financed from by the Global Funding systems.
The World Bank invites Prof. Dr. Mohamed Farghaly to visit Washington during the period of 19 - 21 January 2010, to participate in the Council meetings as well as in the WBSDF (World Bank Social Development Forum) which is held annually with more than 1000 participants that are mostly from the World Bank officials, as it will concern this year mainly with the World Development Report for the year 2010 related issues of development and climatic changes.
Furthermore, Dr. Farghaly will participate in the highly superlative meetings (sessions) that are going to be organized in the same way as Davos, as they will include the attendance of Uganda’s minister for national disaster mitigation and preparedness, Samoa Minister of Environmental and Natural Resources , and Senegal’s Interior Minister.
At the meanwhile, Dr. Farghaly was asked by the World Bank to set a series of meetings along side of the Forum in order to support the cooperation between the Academy and the World Bank since the Academy is currently implementing many of the World Bank Projects in the field of climatic changes. Moreover, these meetings will include the attendance of the Global Facility director for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR), the World Bank Group in the Middle East and North Africa and the World Bank Institute.
