Regional Centre for Disaster Risk Reduction - Second Board Meeting

The Regional Centre for Disaster Risk Reduction - Second Board Meeting will be held on Monday 20th of December 2010, at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) – Cairo, where the meeting will be chaired by His Royal Highness Prince. Turki Bin Nasser Bin Abdulaziz - Chairman of the Regional Centre for Disaster Risk Reduction, President – General of Meteorology and Environment Protection in Saudi Arabia, Chairman of Executive Bureau of the Council of Arab Ministers Responsible for the Environment, President of the Third Islamic Conference of Environment Ministers, and Chairman of the Islamic Executive Bureau for Environment, as well as in the presence of Their Excellencies the members of the Governing Council who are H.E. Eng. Maged George - Vice-Chairman of the Regional Centre for Disaster Risk Reduction and Egypt's Minister of State for Environmental Affairs, H.E. Dr. Rashid Ahmad Bin Fahad – UAE Minister of Environment and Water, H.E. Saroj Kumar Jha - Program Manager for the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR) of the World Bank, H.E. Mr. Mohamed Mehdi Mlika, Minister Adviser to the Prime Minister of Tunisia, H.E. Prof. Dr. Mohamed Farghaly - President of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT), Mr. Ghassan Mohamed El Marzouki representing H.E. Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Ali - President of the Islamic Development Bank, Mr. Amjad Abbashar representing H.E. Dr. Margareta Wahlstrom - United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction and Special Representative of the Secretary-General for the implementation of Hyogo Framework.
The council will discuss the most important deliverables of the centre during the year 2010, which have been implemented by the support of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT), in cooperation with the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction and the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery of the World Bank which included the Arab region projects, activities and the training programs in the field of Disaster Risk Reduction Such as training on the general framework for disaster management and preparation of databases of natural disasters in the Arab region as well as the preparation of geographical maps for the period from (2010 - 2040), that present the Annual rainfall, Temperature, Evaporation and Drought of the North Western part of Asia which includes Jordan - Syria - Palestine - Lebanon – Egypt.
The meeting will also discuss the Centre's work plan for the period (January - December 2011), with its projects as training and research activities in the field of disaster risk reduction.
