TanzaniaRelations between Egypt and TanzaniaBrief History:
The diplomatic relations between Egypt and Tanzania started in 1962, with very close relations between the two Leaders Gamal Abdel Nasser and Julius Nyerere.
Egypt and Tanzania enjoy close relations, and a distinct cooperation between the two countries.
There is a higher joint committee that convenes regularly to strengthen the trade, economic and cultural relations and other aspects of comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.
A memorandum of understanding for political consultations between the two countries was signed during the visit of the former Minister of Foreign Affairs to Tanzania on January 10 - 11, 2012.
 Mutual Visits:
• Former Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs visited Tanzania on February 2014 and handed over a message from former President Adly Mansour to former Tanzanian President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete on Egypt's vision for boosting relations with Tanzania along with the recent developments in the region and the African continent.
• Former Egyptian Prime Minister visited Tanzania on April 2014, and participated in the 50th Tanzanian Independence Anniversary Celebrations.
• Tanzanian Foreign Minister visited Egypt on June 2014, to attend the inauguration ceremony of H.E. President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi.
• H.E. President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi held a meeting with former Tanzanian President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete on the sidelines of the African Union summit in Equatorial Guinea on June 2014.
• Egyptian Agriculture Minister visited Tanzania on November 2015, and participated in the inauguration ceremony of Tanzanian President John Magufuli.Economic Relations:
• The trade exchange volume between Egypt and Tanzania reached 22.3 million USD during the period from January to October 2015, with total Egyptian exports estimated at 21 million USD, and Egyptian imports of about 1.3 million USD.
Sugar is one of the main Egyptian exports to Tanzania (53% of Egyptian exports during that period).
Tea is the top Egyptian imports from Tanzania.Egypt's exports to Tanzania include can sugar and ammonium carbonate. Egypt's imports from Tanzania include copper.
• In February 2012, Egypt offered a radiology device worth 200,000 USD to the police hospital in Dar es Salaam, and a complete mortuary for the same hospital is being finalized.
 The surgery unit of Bagamoyo Hospital was also equipped in January 2013.
In addition, the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development offered the teaching hospital in Dar es Salaam a complete renal and urinary tract surgery unit, that was already delivered in March 2014 (worth 300,000 USD), as well as 4 renal dialysis machines.
• In the framework of the Egyptian Initiative for Development in the Nile Basin countries, the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation is implementing a project to drill 100 groundwater wells in Tanzania.
The former Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation has inaugurated 30 wells in January 2013. The current Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation also visited Tanzania in November 2016 to inaugurate the second phase of these wells (30 wells).
• There is a joint Egyptian 160 acres farm in Zanzibar Island producing rice and a number of other crops efficiently.Technical cooperation and assistance:
• Egypt presents through the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development (EAPD) various training courses to Tanzania in different fields including trade, transport diplomacy and agriculture.
In addition to the Tanzanian participation in the training courses organized by the different Egyptian Ministers the Ministry of Electricity and the Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources.
• The Egyptian Islamic Centre in Dar es Salaam was established in 1968, and is considered as one of the most important tools in the cultural cooperation between the two countries, with more than 1400 students in it.
• A delegation of the Administrative Control Authority, headed by the Authority’s First Undersecretary, held a visit to Tanzania from July 27th to August 3th, 2015 in the framework of activating the cooperation agreement signed with the Tanzanian Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau to exchange and acquire experiences in the field of supervision work.
