Egypt and NigeriaGeneral Relations:
Brief HistoryEgypt and Nigeria have enjoyed cordial and friendly relations since 1961 when the diplomatic relations were established as testament to the excellent relationship between the late Egyptian president, Gamal Abdel Nasser, and the first Prime Minister of Nigeria.
The leaders of the two countries took it upon themselves to strengthen the relationship between the two nations through continued cooperation in supporting the independence of African countries, working together on issues of common interest, and enhancing cooperation on a bilateral level.
Today, leadership in both countries continues to work on achieving a higher level of cooperation in all fields, and build on the deep rooted and historical relations in order to tap into the abundant resources available for them in a manner that would ensure a better future.Mutual VisitsH.E. Mr. Hassan Sakr, Chairman of the Supreme council for sports visited Nigeria to attend the meetings of the supreme council for sports in Africa held from May 12 to May 14, 2010.H.E Mr. Amin Abaza, Minister of Agriculture, visited Nigeria from March 8 to March 10, 2010.Permanent Secretary of the Foreign Ministry of Nigeria visited Cairo in June 2010.H.E. the Nigerian Minister of Science and Technology Visited Cairo on the 3rd of June 2010.Delegation of the Nigerian National Commissions for Museums and Monuments visited Cairo in February 2010.

Economic RelationsEconomic relations between the two countries witnessed a new level of activities during the past few years.
Egyptian exports registered a 160% increase in 2009 (U.S$ 116 million compared to U.S$ 73 million in 2008) which can be considered a major improvement taking into consideration the severe economic and financial crises the world has witnessed during that year.
Major Egyptian Companies such as the Arab Contractors, Orascom Construction, Mantrac, Elsewedy Cables and EGYPRO have established themselves as strong players, with total investment exceeding U.S$ 1.4 Billion, in the Nigerian Market and were able to work on major projects.
The Egyptian Nigerian Business Council in and its counterpart in are private sector initiatives that were established to foster business cooperation between the two countries and institutionalizing the relationship between the business communities on both sides, as a major mechanism to enhance bilateral trade and the promotion of investment.
The Presence of Egypt Air, which commenced its flights from Cairo to Abuja since June 2009, in Nigeria helped in increasing the number of tourists traveling to Cairo, taking into consideration that Egypt Air now operates 14 flights / week from Cairo to Abuja, Lagos and Kano.
This, in addition to the presence of 160 Egyptian Physicians through out , have helped in promoting as a major destination for Medical Tourism.
Cultural RelationsEgypt and Nigeria enjoy a deep cultural affinity that brought the two countries together since Nigeria’s independence.
Currently there are hundreds of Nigerian students enrolled in Faculties of Medicine and in many Egyptian universities, in addition to 47 Nigerian students capitalizing on scholarships offered by the Egyptian government, as well as training in the fields of mass media, and agriculture.
The Embassy in cooperation with Egyptian companies present in Nigeria, as well as the ministries of culture in both countries, organized 2 cultural weeks in 2008 and 2009 with the participation of Egyptian cultural troupes, that included an Egyptian food festival and an art contest.
Nigeria and AASTMTAcademicAASTMT welcomes the Nigerian students since 1995 in its different educational fields.Students Statistics:
The student capacity has been started by one student in the first semester of 1995 in Maritime and technology college (Marine Department).
By the end of the second semester 2015/2016, the number of students has reached 283 students and the number of the graduated students reached 175 students.
