AlgeriaBilateral RelationsEgyptian-Algerian relations are characterized by a common history of friendship and struggle, where Egypt played a substantial role in supporting the Algerian liberation war against the French occupation.
Algeria also supported Egypt during the October 1973 war.
• Bilateral relations are ever growing between the two countries on all levels whether political, economic, or social and both countries' leadership are keen on supporting such ties and promoting bilateral cooperation in all fields.
•The High Joint Committee chaired by the Prime Ministers of Egypt and Algeria is the overall framework regulating relations between the two countries.
•The seventh session of the High Joint Committee was held in Cairo from 10-13 November 2014 chaired by Engineer Ibrahim Mahleb (former Prime Minister) and Prime Minister of Algeria Abdul Malik Sallal.
The committee witnessed the signature of 16 documents: two agreements in the fields of media cooperation, 8 memorandums of understanding in fields of construction, industrial areas development, building and maintenance of airports, insurance, veterinary services, vocational training, export development, consumer protection, cooperation between the stock markets, in addition to 6 executive programs in the fields of higher education, tourism, sports, youth, cultural cooperation, and manpower.Mutual visits:
•H.E. President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi made his first visit, to Algeria on June 25th 2014, where he held talks with H.E. Abdelaziz Bouteflika on means of promoting cooperation between the two countries and coordinate positions on a number of regional and international issues.
•Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Sameh Shoukry visited Algeria on 23rd October 2014 to coordinate positions on a number of regional issues especially the Libyan crisis, as well as addressing bilateral relations between the two countries.
•Former Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Engineer Shreif Ismail visited Algeria on 29th-30th December to finalize the agreement between Egypt and Algeria to supply liquid gas from the latter to Egypt, and discuss means of cooperation between the two countries in all fields of energy.
•The Grand Mufti of Egypt visited Algeria as a guest of honor in the "Almalki Ideology Forum" held in May 2015 in Algeria.
•Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Sameh Shoukry visited Algeria 23rd - 24th May 2015, where he met with H.E. Bouteflika, Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sallal, H.E. Ramtane Lamamra Minister of Foreign Ministery, H.E. Abdelkader Messahel, Minister of Maghreb Affairs, African Union and League of Arab States.
The Minister discussed with the Algerian officials developments in the Arab region especially the Libyan crisis, in addition to bilateral relations between the two countries.
 Algerian Foreign Minister Abdelkader Messahel visited Egypt on August 2, 2017, conveying to President al-Sisi a message from Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika affirming Algeria's pride in its close and distinguished relations with Egypt, and the importance of seeking to develop them, especially through convening the meetings of the Higher Joint Committee to enhance their bilateral relations and to strengthen consultation and coordination in order to find solutions to the Arab region’s crises.
•In the framework of the meetings of the tripartite coordination mechanism between Egypt, Tunisia and Algeria on Libya, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry visited Algeria in June 2017 to discuss means to support the political settlement in Libya.
•Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry held a visit to Algeria on November 1, 2015 to participate in the tripartite meeting held at the level of the Foreign Ministers of Egypt, Algeria and Italy to consult on the developments of the Libyan crisis and ways to support efforts aimed at forming a national reconciliation government.
•Algerian President of the Council of Nation Abdelkader Bensalah held a visit to Egypt on August 6, 2015 to convey a letter from Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika to President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, expressing his pride in the inauguration of the new Suez Canal, which would facilitate international maritime traffic.
Trade Relations:
•Trade exchange between the two countries reached 1.1 billion USD in 2014.
•Egyptian exports to Algeria amounts to about 575 million USD, while Algerian exports reach 532 million according to 2014 figures.
Cultural Relations:The cultural component is very prominent in the bilateral relations between the two countries, in light of its effectiveness in bringing both sides closer whether through art troupes, sports, or holding international film and cultural festivals in Egypt or Algeria.
