MOHAMED RAOUF BAHGAT ABAZA

biography

Prof. Mohamed Abaza is a Professor and Head of the Electronics and Communication Engineering Department at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT), Smart Village Campus, Giza, Egypt. He also serves as Head of the Quality Unit at the Smart Village Campus and Assistant Dean for the Deanship of the Quality Assurance and Accreditation Center. He earned his Ph.D. in Digital Communications from Universite de Bretagne Occidentale (France), and holds both M.Sc. and B.Sc. degrees in Electronics and Communications Engineering from AASTMT. With more than 50 publications in reputable international journals and conferences, Prof. Abaza has made notable contributions to MIMO systems, optical wireless communications, and digital communications. His research impact includes over 1,100 citations and an H-index of 18. Prof. Abaza plays a leading role in institutional quality assurance and accreditation activities, including ABET accreditation, Supreme Council accreditation, and ISO management system certifications, including ISO 9001:2015, ISO/IEC 27001:2023, and ISO/IEC 42001:2023. He teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses, with particular expertise in optical communications and advanced communication systems. As an IEEE Senior Member, he supports student development through mentoring and supervision of student organizations and technical activities, including IEEE and Inceptum. He has also coordinated international educational and training programs to enhance students’ global and industry exposure and contributes to the design and development of new undergraduate programs to ensure alignment with international standards and evolving market needs. Prof. Abaza maintains strong and continuous engagement with industry to strengthen the link between academic learning and real-world practice. He supports partnerships, training opportunities, and applied projects that enhance student employability and practical skills, while also enabling faculty members to collaborate with industry on research, curriculum enhancement, and professional development. Prof. Abaza is recognized for his strong support of faculty members, providing assistance with academic and professional needs. He responds to faculty requests, helps streamline academic and administrative procedures, supports professional development, and ensures that faculty requirements are addressed in an efficient and effective manner.
