Ahmed Khalifa Aly Mehanna

biography

Prof. Dr. Ahmed Khalifa Mehanna is a distinguished Full Professor of Hydrodynamics at the Marine and Offshore Engineering Department, College of Engineering and Technology, Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT). Currently, he serves as Vice Dean of Student Affairs at AASTMT Main Campus and previously held the position of Head of the International Research Projects Department. Prof. Mehanna earned his Ph. D. in Marine Engineering from Port Said University, Egypt, in 2015. His expertise spans a broad range of marine and ocean engineering disciplines. His expertise spans a broad range of marine and ocean engineering disciplines, including¬¬ hydrodynamics, marine structures, ship design, propulsion systems, offshore structures, and shipbuilding technologies. He is also well-versed in risk assessment, fluid mechanics, and marine environmental studies with practical experience in designing small floating units. Moreover, he has a strong foundation and experience in Education Programmes Development, Quality assurance, Auditing and Accreditation systems. Prof. Mehanna has a proven track record in international grants and collaborative projects. He has contributed to numerous initiatives under the European Commission’s Tempus and Erasmus+ Programs focusing on capacity building of higher education: CBHE, curriculum development and program creation either in undergraduate or postgraduate, research activities, and social activities with stakeholders engagement in cooperation with different universities, authorities and NGOs’ from the European/Arabian/Egyptian consortiums. Through these projects, he helped establish laboratories, master’s programs, and Accessibility Centers at AASTMT and other Egyptian universities. Prof. Mehanna’s extensive contributions reflect his commitment to advancing marine engineering, risk assessment, education, entrepreneurship, leadership and inclusivity. Prof. Mehanna chaired the Organizing Committee of the 2nd International Conference for Persons with Disabilities (IC-PACES) in 2021 and he also played a pivotal role in establishing Egypt’s first Incubator for People with Disabilities at AASTMT in 2022 in cooperation with AASTMT Entrepreneurship Center Team. Currently, he is the contact person for a project about the digitalization and tools for transforming higher education systems, the project is a part of Horizon Europe - Framework Program for Research and Innovation (2021-2027) funded from the European Commission.
