Akram Soliman was born in 1969 in Alexandria, Egypt. On June 1991, he graduated from Faculty of Engineering, University of Alexandria, Egypt. From 1993 – 1998 he prepared his M.Sc degree in Coastal Engineering in a computational and theoretical study for the floating breakwater, University of Alexandria, Egypt. As for his Academic Experience he joined Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime transport (AASTMT) on 1997. From 1997 – 1999. He was a teaching assistant in the Construction and Building Engineering department, College of Engineering and Technology. From 1999 – 2003 he was a Ph.D. Research Student, School of Civil Engineering, University of Nottingham, UK. As well as he was a teaching assistant in the university. On April 2002, he Joined the Coastal Engineering Group, School of Civil Engineering, National University of Singapore, Singapore, as a research visitor to study the “Two Dimensional Numerical breaking wave numerical model which used Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes models”. From 2004 – 2008 he was an assistance professor in the Construction and Building Engineering department, College of Engineering and Technology. On June 2007, he Joined the Coastal Engineering Research Group, School of Engineering, Plymouth University, UK, as a research visitor to investigate numerical modelling of wave run-up and overtopping of seawalls using Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes models. In April 2008, he became Associate Professor of Coastal Engineering and Port Planning. In August 2008, he was awarded Fulbright Egyptian Scholar, a three- month research grant at Coastal and Ocean Engineering Division, Department of Civil Engineering, Texas A&M University, Texas, USA. He appointed his position as Dean, Port Training Institute, AASTMT on Oct. 2008. He was appointed as the dean of college of Engineering and Technology, Abu Kier Campus in February 2022 till now. In 2023, he was also appointed the dean of College Engineering and Technology, Port Said Campus in addition to his role as the dean of Abu Kier Campus. Prof. Soliman supervised many PhD and MSc research students at Arab Academy, Alexandria University, Port said University, Tanta University, Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology, and Salford University, UK. He has published many journal articles in Coastal Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Alexandria Engineering Journal and Al-Azhar University Engineering Journal (AUEJ). He also participated in various international conferences and workshops as a guest keynote speaker for many international and national associations as the University of Genoa, MEDPorts Association, International Association of Maritime Universities (IAMU), Escola Europea for Intermodal Transport in Spain, The International Network for Small and Medium Enterprises (INSME), Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology”, the National Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries. In addition, On May 2012, he was member of organizing committee for the Technical and Managerial Aspects in Commercial and Industrial Ports (Security – Safety – Performance) workshop, Arab Academy for Science and Technology and Maritime Transport in cooperation with Saudi Ports Authority, Yanbu, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. On September 2013, he was member of organizing committee member for the Role of Logistic in Supporting the Competitiveness of the Transport Sector workshop, Al Jubail, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. On September 2014, he was member of organizing Committee member for the International Marine and Offshore Engineering Conference, Arab Academy for Science and Technology and Maritime Transport in cooperation with Saudi Ports Authority, Al Jubail, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. On February 2016, He was member of organizing Committee member for the Quality on Ports workshop, Arab Academy for Science and Technology and Maritime Transport in cooperation with Saudi Ports Authority, Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. From years 2008 till now, he is the organizing Committee Head for the International Maritime Transport and Logistics Conference "MARLOG", the 25th International Conference on Seaports and Maritime Transport "Seaports and Maritime Transport: Retrospective and Perspective" and the 26th International Conference on Seaports and Maritime Transport "Integration for Better Future", Arab Academy for Science and Technology and Maritime Transport, Alexandria, Egypt. Furthermore, he acted as the head of the Organizing Committee of the Webinar Series titled: “Beyond the Flood of COVID-19” from May to August 2020. He was a Steering Committee Member of the 1st Business and Entrepreneurship International Conference held in March 2021. He was the Head of the Local Organizing Committee of the Annual General Assembly (AGA) of the International Association of Maritime Universities (IAMU) and The International Association of Maritime Universities Conference (IAMUC), held in October 2021, Alexandria, Egypt. He was the head of the Advisory Committee, Youth Endeavours For Social Innovation using Sustainable Technology (YESIST 2023), (2 – 3 September 2023), held in Alexandria, Egypt. He was the head of AASTMT Organization Committee of the 2024 IEEE International Conference on Machine Intelligence and Smart Innovation ICMISI 2024 (from May 2024 to Date). Prof. Soliman participated in many projects in the field of coastal structure for instance he participated in the Designing and supervision of Low Cost Domestic Flood Relief. Which is a joint project with Bakemast Ltd Company, Nottingham, England (2003), moreover, he put the design of the groins which used as shore protection structures at Miami Beach, Alexandria, in participation with consulting Engineering Group (2004). Furthermore, he made the Design of the onshore structures to protect buildings of Automobile and Touring Club which located at Alexandria coastline (2007). As well as he participated in the technical committees of various projects for instance Port Said East Port Development Project, Port Said, Egypt (2006), Study of the Development of Al-Areesh harbor, Egypt (2007), Coastal erosion and shore Protection at Halul Island , Qatar Petroleum, Qatar (2012), Developing of OPC Platform, Egyptian Hydrocarbon Corporation (EHC), Ain Sukhna, Egypt (2012) and Container Quay Wall No. 100, Alexandria Container and Cargo Handling Company, El-Dekhila Port, Alexandria, Egypt (2013). He was the Project Manager for the YOUTH EMPLOYMENT IN PORTS OF THE MEDITERRANEAN ENI Funded Project – CBC (Cross Border Cooperation) Program (September 2020 to December 2023). He is currently acting as a Consultant for the project titled” Studying the Vulnerability Assessment of Egyptian Ports to Climate Change and Appropriate Adaptation Options Based on Cost-Benefit Analysis”, Science, Technology & Innovation Funding Authority (STDF) Funded Project (for the Ministry of Scientific Research).
