Dr. Reda M. Fahim is a dedicated fisheries biologist with over 15 years of experience in research, teaching, and management. Born in a small town in northern Egypt, Reda's passion for fisheries was ignited during his childhood, surrounded by the vibrant fishing community of the Mediterranean Sea. This passion propelled him to pursue a career in fisheries science, earning his B.Sc. in Agricultural Sciences (Fish Production) from Alexandria University, followed by an M.Sc. in Fisheries Science with a thesis focused on the biology and nutritional studies of seabass fish. Reda furthered his research, earning his PhD in Fisheries Science, specializing in the abundance, distribution, and fishery biology of the family Mullidae in the Mediterranean waters of Egypt. His research and management expertise have contributed significantly to local and global fisheries efforts. He serves as the head of the Fisheries Department at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) in Egypt, and has led several projects in the Egyptian Mediterranean Sea, particularly those involving stock assessment, conservation initiatives, and sustainable fisheries management. Reda has also served as a fisheries consultant for the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), contributing to the identification of stock boundaries of round Sardinella in the Eastern Mediterranean and providing technical guidance on fish stock assessment in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. Dr. Reda has participated in the GFCM (General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean) working groups, including the WGSAD (Working Group on Stock Assessment for Demersal Species) and WGSASP (Working Group on Stock Assessment for Small Pelagic Species). He has led stock assessments for common fish species in the Egyptian Mediterranean and has also led the discards and bycatch monitoring program within the GSA 26 region. Beyond his local involvement, Dr. Fahim has played an instrumental role in international projects. He has served as a fisheries consultant for the FAO's EastMed Project, analyzing body morphometry and meristics, demographic indices, and life history traits of round Sardinella. He has also provided technical assistance to institutions in the Eastern Mediterranean, ensuring the implementation of agreed protocols for data collection in the context of the FISHBONE program. Dr. Fahim's commitment to fisheries science is evident in his academic achievements. He has authored scientific reports and research papers, designed and taught courses in fisheries biology, and collaborated with high-level scientists through the International Scientific Committee (ISC). His dedication to knowledge sharing has led him to develop and translate training materials for colleagues in the Eastern Mediterranean, enhancing accessibility and knowledge retention. Dr. Reda Fahim's work embodies the intersection of passion, expertise, and global collaboration. His unwavering commitment to sustainable fisheries management makes him a valuable asset to the field, contributing significantly to the advancement of science and the well-being of aquatic resources.
