Mohamed Shaheen Elgamel received the B.Sc. degree in computer science from Alexandria University, Alexandria, Egypt, in 1991, the M.Sc. degree in computer engineering from Arab Academy for Science and Technology (AAST), Alexandria, Egypt, in 1998, the M.Sc. and the PhD degrees in computer engineering from University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Louisiana, USA, in 2000 and 2003 respectively. He is currently an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology, AAST. From 2003-2010, he has been a Graduate Faculty at The Center for Advanced Computer Studies, University of Louisiana at Lafayette, USA. From 1999 to 2003, he served as a Research Assistant and Adjunct Faculty at Computer Science Department, University of Louisiana at Lafayette, USA. From 1991 to 1999, he was a Senior Analyst Programmer at Arab Academy for Science and Technology, Egypt. He visited International Telematic University, UNINETTUNO, from 20 January 2013 till 17 February 2013, funded by MEDASTAR (Mediterranean Area for Science, Technology and Research), Erasmus Mundus Action 2 – 2012 Scholarship. His research interests include Embedded Systems, Software Engineering, Wireless Sensor Networks, and digital image and video processing. His research is supported by funds from federal agents like DOE, NSF, the Louisiana Governor ITI, the Qatar National Research Fund (“QNRF”), Smart Critical Infrastructure Center, Alexandria University, Egypt, and ITIDA, Egypt. Dr. Elgamel received the 2002 Richard E. Merwin Student Scholarship for demonstrating outstanding involvement in an IEEE-CS and excellence in academic achievement. He was the first place winner in “the student paper contest” in the 46th IEEE International Midwest Symposium on Circuits and Systems, (MWSCAS’2003). He won the cash prize award from AAST for his high quality publication. He was the president of the IEEE Computer Society student chapter at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He is a member on the IEEE Technical Committee on Communication and IEEE-TC on VLSI. He served on the program committees and chaired sessions of several conferences and as a reviewer/Reviewer Committee Members for several conferences, journals, and funding agencies.
